Ikat Tall Shirtdress

Don't give up on me! I haven't posted much this past week as it's been an extremely busy week and I have had so much Mom business to take care of.  The kiddos come first. As much as I would love to blog every day, it's not always realistic. After today, I will be taking another leave for the rest of the week as it's Spring break. I will be out in the desert without any Internet access.  But, you can expect me back next week for sure! For those of you waiting on personal shopping requests, I haven't forgotten you.  It will be another week. Sorry! Today I'm inspired by the blues in this skirt dress. I'd rather be wearing this on a beach vacation, then the sloppy clothes I'll be wearing four- wheeling in the desert. Maybe when I return... Ikat Tall Shirtdress. Vigotti Blue Sandals to size 13. Lucky Brand Blue Drop Earrings. Hinge Bracelet Please let me know what type of things you'd like posted this Spring.  Any style challenges, etc. Comment below. … [Read more...]

Tall Personal Shopping: Tall Blazers & Colored Jeans

Client: 5'9" tall woman, age 37 Sizes: 4 or 26" waist, and 6 or medium in tops. 33"-34" inseam length. Budget: Not sure - maybe up to $100 per item. Wants: "I have the hardest time finding tall blazers, tall jackets and definitely tall denim in colors (grey and red) and stone wash denim. I will spend money for quality when it comes to blazers and jackets, but of course I will not pass up a good deal." Tall Snob Responds: I'm going to second what you said about finding "quality" tall blazers and jackets.  I will get one I love and then the same brand will produce a less than desirable quality the next time.  I believe it's because some of the name brands are outsourcing to different factories all the time and the quality control is not the greatest. So, I don't know what to tell you other than just keep trying and send back what doesn't work.  It's an irritant of all of us tall girls. Ugh.  However, one brand that seems to stay consistent is JCrew, but you will pay much … [Read more...]

Tall Personal Shopping: Tall, Plus Size Professional Feels Frumpy

Client: 5'10" tall woman, 49 year old Sizes:  Her weight fluctuates between 14W - 2X. She is currently a size 2X. Chest is a 42DD. Somewhat of an apple shape with a flat rear area.  35" inseam length.  Other Notes: - Empire waist is not flattering on her body and she feels insecure with bare upper arms. "Her closet is a fashion nighmare." Wants:  She works in an office selling property insurance and needs clothes for work.  She loves the preppy look and is inspired by Steve Nicks. Budget:  Tight, but can make exceptions for fabulous pieces.   Tall Snob Responds:  I understand that when you feel frumpy you think everything looks bad on you, whether it does or not.  I think your issue with empire waists is that with being tall, the empire may not even hit under your chest.  Plus with a big chest, you often see the empire curve really adding extra emphasis to your chest.  You get a bust roll and then viola the girls are definitely defined and curved. However, you … [Read more...]

Tall Personal Shopping: What to Wear as a Court Reporter

Client: 6'1" tall, 49 years old works as a court reporter. Size: 14 with a 35" inseam length. Size 12 shoes. Wants: Help in finding clothes. She basically has 2 pair of black knit pants that she interchanges with blouses. She hates shopping and doesn't know what looks good together. Budget:  Moderately priced.   Tall Snob Responds:  I can see your dilemma. You work in an environment where the judge wears a bulky robe that masks every bit of body shape.  You are trying to cover the case without being the focus of the case. Does this mean you need to dress like a nun? No! You can still be a stylish women while still looking professional.  Now having said that, I don't suggest you wear fluorescent colors or get an extreme hairstyle.  But, you can office appropriate colored suits with a pretty accessory such as a shiny necklace. A few guidelines: Suits in darker colors, grays or tans. Classic pumps with low to medium heels. Blouses with at least short to long … [Read more...]

Personal Shopping: Business Casual Wardrobe for Tall Woman

Client: Age 26, 6'3" tall. Sizes:  8-10, 37" inseam, size 10 shoes (no heels please) Wants:  Business casual outfits that can also double as outfits for going out with friends. She loves outfits with bright colors in trendy styles similar to a "short" person's wardrobe. Tall Snob Responds: I've tried to give you as much as a mix and match wardrobe as I can.  By keeping the bottoms in neutral colors of tan and navy blue, it's easy to mix and match all the tops and sweaters. The accessories will also match all the items.  I hope this helps to maximize your budget.  I did tend to go overboard on the polka dots, so I hope you love dots. It seems like they are everywhere this season. As far as creating items similar to a short person's wardrobe, I have no expertise there and I'm not going to pretend that I do. Please embrace your height and play up your assets as you are unique and gorgeous and I sincerely want you to believe that!  Striped Tall Peplum Top. Tall Cardi. Tall … [Read more...]

Tall Jumpsuits For Every Age

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've shared fun finds and inspiration with you!  I have a really good excuse which I blogged about on my personal blog today! (You can see that post here).  Let's just say I may be highlighting a few more maternity looks in the coming weeks! :)  I've been very sick on and off and have put any "extra" energy into the weekly newsletter!  But I'm feeling better lately and hope to be able to blog here more frequently! Today I wanted to highlight some fun finds from a favorite partner.  I love rompers, one pieces, jumpsuits--whatever you want to call them.  But it can be tough to pull off depending on your body type, age, and personal style.  I thought it was interesting that the three offered in tall sizes at Alloy right now seem to neatly fit into three age categories.  Now, I always have to give the disclaimer each time I mention dressing for your age or stage in life that there really are no hard and fast rules! If you like it and feel confident in … [Read more...]

Drink Your Coca Cola Slowly!

It's Valentine's Day and today I have a love story for you to take you down my memory lane. It's SWEET! My grandma had a sweet tooth, but she loved one thing more than sweets and that was Coca Cola. My grandparents were serious fruit farmers. Sadly, my grandpa died at age 50 from a heart attack and grandma was left to finish raising my dad's siblings and make a living. She went back to school and became a school teacher.  Everyone in the family stepped up to help with the fruit farming. As the grand-kids came along, we were required to help with the farm work. So I grew up as a farm girl spending most of my Spring and Summer days pruning trees, irrigating the trees, helping with the cherry harvest, picking peaches, etc.  It was far from glamorous and there were many days that I hated it.  At the end of the Summer I would take my farm money and buy all of my back to school clothes as money was scarce in my family. I've since bought all of my own clothes from the time I was 8 years … [Read more...]
