I love Asos. That said, I have never ordered from there. The first purchase from an online retailer is always the hardest. Once you've ordered a few items you have a sense of their sizing and can be more comfortable. But before that, the thought of paying shipping there AND back if the item doesn't fit is enough to give me pause. Well now, Asos is offering free shipping BOTH ways which means a risk free purchase for you! I'm loving these pretty skirts. Small at the waist, a floaty A-line, and pretty pleats are flattering on nearly every figure. It's also an ideal silhouette for a tall gal to try since there aren't any seams that fall in the wrong place. I love that each is paired with a simple T or tank. Definitely an easy look to replicate. I picked the midi length (and one maxi) since we are tall an don't dare try the minis. They are 27 to 28 2/3 inches long. The models wearing them are all 5'9." Best Dressed: More Stripes Please.
I almost titled this "trend alert" but really- are stripes a trend? When something is always "in," can it still be considered a trend? That's what I love about stripes. They're never out, always chic, and whether you're seeing them everywhere or occasionally, they're completely appropriate. I think there might have been a "don't wear horizontal stripes" rule for a short time but that was probably around the "redheads shouldn't wear red" time...a time when rules reigned supreme. Those days are over. The only rule is there are no rules. Ok, there might be guidelines, but not rules. ;) When browsing for dresses to blog I realized I was seeing a theme. I threw out my initial concept for a post and went with this one. Enjoy my picks of striped dresses: From Left to Right: Loft Tall Zig Zag Panel Sleeveless Dress. Tall Breton Stripe Midi Dress. Essential striped scoop dress (Tall). Striped drawstring maxi dress (Tall). Which is your favorite? I seriously can't … [Read more...]
Outfit Inspiration from Unexpected Places
I was recently reading a blog and the author described seeing a friend's outfit and wanting to turn it into a colorscape for a room. I love perusing design blogs and home decor ideas on sites like Pinterest and Houzz. So that comment resonated with me. Today, I want to do the opposite. I've turned a room I love into an outfit I hope you love (or at least will be inspired by)! {via} Dressy: New Tailored Print Shirt (Tall) + Tall Marisa Straight Leg Pants + Nine West Fleance. I love how the bold print of the shirt mirrors the bold print of the pollows. The dark shoes are almost the same color as the lampshade. Casual: Medallion Print Slub Tank (Tall) + Skinny Mini Skimmer Khakis (Tall). + Rocket Dog Shell Natural Buried Treasure. Again, I picked a bold navy print to match the room. I also love the texture and color of the shoes which mirror the couch and the carpet. So where do you get your outfit inspiration from? … [Read more...]
Pinterest Inspired Outfit: The Tulle Skirt.
The minute I saw this Mid Length Tulle Skirt in the Tall Snob store I loved it. And even after this post, I just wasn't sure how to wear it. The color (navy or tan), the price (just $33), and the length (mid) were all perfect...but none of that matters if it sits in the back of your closet! But then I happened upon this pin and I knew I had to share my conundrum. Because this makes finding outfits featuring a tulle skirt, SO easy: Pinterest Image via Fast Food & Fast Fashion. Here is my interpretation...for the tall gal of course: Look 1: Tulle Skirt + Oversized white tee. (Tulle Skirt. Women's Crepe Scoop Neck Tee. Tall.) Look 2: Tulle Skirt + Texture. (Tulle Skirt. So You Want to be a Model?
I don't know that I've ever mentioned my modeling experience here on Tall Snob. But after posting a picture from a recent job, Krista asked me to write a post with some helpful hints for those of you who might be interested in breaking into the biz (or those of you who have children who would be interested). I happily obliged. An audience of tall women makes perfect sense for the topic! While there are many annoying questions we get as tall women, "Do you model?" certainly isn't one of them! Modeling is one of those creative fields where it is tough to get information and there are many scammers out there who will tell you only what you want to hear simply to get your hard earned cash. So here is a snippet of my experience sprinkled with some advice for you. Disclaimer: Please be aware that I am not an expert and am recently not actively modeling. I don't have all the answers and because it's a creative field, experiences vary from market to market, region to region, and agency … [Read more...]
One Skirt Two Ways: Work and Play.
I don't know about you but when I worked outside the home it was always tough to take my work wear into casual wear. I hated having two wardrobes; it felt expensive and unnecessary. When I came across this skirt, I knew it would be the perfect piece to take from work to date night, church, or even shopping. I featured it in this post but my work wasn't done; clearly someone is not quite over neon. Worthington Colorblock Pleated Skirt (Tall). This skirt is a great opportunity to infuse some color into one's wardrobe. The light colors and fabric are perfect for spring and summer. The A-line and pleats are perfect for all shapes (curvy girls and pear shaped gals, go for it!). See it styled two ways: Casual Cool versus Office Chic Women's Chambray Shirts. Enzo Angiolini - Karnak (Natural/Neon Yellow) (Up to size 11). The casual outfit is adorable (if I do say so myself) and unexpected. I love pairing the light chambray with the neon. It definitely dresses it … [Read more...]
Neon Brights
I have always loved neon. Remember zinc? That neon paste that people wore on their noses to prevent sunscreen. I wore it on my lips. As lipstick. My family teased me about that forever. They could see my lips a mile away. Fast forward 20+ years. (Wow. 20 years?!) and I still love color. Yes I've toned down the lips a bit. But I'm still not afraid to rock a little neon. While browsing Pinterest I noticed a few fun pins featuring neon color and outfits. And this post was born. Enjoy my neon picks: Incorporating neon by way of accessories is a lot less scary than rocking a full fledged neon shirt. or dress. or pants. This is a small way to embrace the trend. Milani Neon Nail Lacquer, Pink Rocks! 508, .45 fl oz. Women’s Neon Trim Straw Fedoras. Ice Watch Silicone Watch in Neon Pink. Aldo Verissimo (bone bag with pink trim). Coral Color Crush
A week ago Krista did a post on the color mint. I love that color! It's been steadily gaining popularity for the last year or so (or at least that's when I started noticing) and another color you often see it paired with is coral. Coral is like peach's cool cousin. It's that orange-ish pink tone that seems fresh and flattering on everyone. If you are dying for spring like I am, it's a nice color to add to your closet now, in anticipation of the warm sunny days ahead. Another note: it's subtle enough for the "I only wear dark and neutral colors" type. Yes YOU. Here are a few fun Coral picks. Oh and bonus: All items are under $100 with most being under $60. Tops/Outerwear: Ponte Academy Blazer in Neon Coral. Tall. Coral Poncho. Women's Eyelet Pocket Shirt in Coral Tropics (Tall). Crew Cardigan in Neon Coral (Tall). Dresses: Long Maxi Dress in Soft Orange. Maci Tank Dress in Coral. Both are extended length (63 inches). Pants: Truck Jeans “Kendall” … [Read more...]
