7 Uncommon Things About Me – the Tall Snob

I am thrilled to be nominated by Elayna at Junoesque for the Versatile Blogger Award!

the versatile blogger award for tall women

Aw shucks, I feel like the popular kid for once! :)  With this award, the rule is that I have to tell you 7 uncommon facts about myself.  Do I really have to stop at 7? I feel so uncommon that I could go on for hours, but really, I don’t want to bore you, so I’ll stop at 7. The next rule is that I have to nominate 15 other bloggers for this award, so pay attention and see if you are on the list below.

7 Uncommon Things about Me – the Tall Snob

1. I grew up in a fruit farming family. I spent all of my Summers working in the cherry orchards with my Grandma, Dad, siblings, uncles and cousins.  It was extremely hard work and most of the time I hated it. From the time I was 8 years old, I would save my money all Summer and buy my school clothes each Fall.  I learned the value of hard work and the value of bargain shopping.

2. I love to travel. We didn’t have a lot of money, but I saved all of my money to go to Europe for a Summer trip after my junior year of high school. This started my travel obsession and I worked at Southwest Airlines during college. That was the best college job ever. Every Saturday morning I would fly somewhere within a 2 hour flight radius, spend the day and fly home that night. What a dream! Then I became a travel agent for a while after I got married. I sure miss those travel discounts.

3. The summer after I graduated from high school, my brother and I headed to Alaska for a Summer job. We worked in a fish factory during salmon season. It was an extremely stinky job, but we had our fun times too. My roommate and my brother fell in love and got married a year later.

4. I have a short daughter. Yes, you read that right. My husband and I have 4 tall boys and we adopted an Asian daughter in 2010. She is the princess of our family and the boys are the court jesters. From the time I was a teen, I always had the feeling that I would adopt a child someday and this is one of the best decisions of my life.

5. I used to be a dancer. As a child I was a Jazzette (my brother called them Spazettes). I learned Jazz and drill team styles. At the age of 14, I switched from dancing to sports. I think it was more of the pressure from others because I was so tall.  I must say that sadly I’ve lost all of my dancing skills. I still enjoy dancing with my kids, but I look pretty goofy.

6. I have never drank alcohol. Yes, it’s true, but it’s part of my religion and I choose to follow it.

7. I am obsessed with Hawaii – both traveling there and everything tropical.  It’s a freaky and strange obsession. In fact, I love tropical styling so much that I decorate my Colorado home with tropical styles.  At this point of my life, I figure if you like something, just go for it!. Who cares what anyone else thinks! I even have a Hawaiian decorating website that my teens help my update.
